urban wildlife

hiding from the london maze of concrete and cars a couple of magpies were skirmishing in my garden this weekend; nothing much to steel but it's a safe enviroment i guess. mandy and jacob, our squirrels in residence, were quite offended by all the racket and started to chuck nutshells at them.

magpies are huge in this country, at least twice the size of italian ones... i was quite scared of being attacked! i've tried sharp beaks before and they are not a pleasent encounter!

the birds weren't bothered by the nutshells and continued to be merrily noisy for a while longer... they disappered when it started to rain and mandy and jacob were quite pleased about that!

later in the evening i was trying to get some sleep when i heard a peculiar ticking sound... i didn't think much of it but after a good 40minutes of repeated rythmic ticking i figured it must have been one of those little birds that carve holes out of trees... cute little noisy bastard of a woodpecker...

how exceptional is it to have all these animals around... i should learn how they survive in this mad unkind environment...

not sure any of this makes any sense, but then again nothing much does anymore.

next time i can't sleep cause of woody, i'll try to go out and chase the fox that lives in the green down the road!
