paolo vimercati, student of architecture, has been studying with an erasmus scholarship at the Helsinki University of Technology, Finland, during the Academic Year 1995-1996.
under my tuition he partecipated two courses in Urban Planning and Design, namely A-36.330 Urban Renewal and A-36.216 Changing topics in Urban Planning and Design.
the first course with 8 credits (320 working hours) continued from sept1995 until may1996, with the theme of ecological renewing of the housing neighbourhoods, having as a project the "ecological renewal for ristinummi neighbourhood unit in the city of Vaasa, Competition" for the same study area, and got in that competition the divided second prize. while non first prize was awarded, we may say that the student work with eight authors, one of them paolo vimercati, was one of the best.
the second course with 1 creat (40 working hours) submitted a competition entry for UIA Istanbul Student COmpetition with the theme "Convivial Spaces". The result of this competition wil be available in the beginning of june 1996. [n.b. ci hanno assegnato una honorable mention]
though paolo vimercati is still in the beginning of his studies in the field of urban planning and design, i consider him very talented for further maturation. such development he already showed in his work in this field here at the Faculty of Architecture. with his good social character it is also easy for him to join an academinc group working process, as was practiced during my two courses.
